Starbugs: Chef Update
I've recently been working on the concept designs for the chef character in Starbugs (by Victor Animation Studio's). The character has gone through alot of changes and I think he is up to the point of where he can be fully painted.
Thanks goes to Dave (www.victoranimationstudio.com) for his rough version of the character above, i think the look of him works brilliantly!
They also have a special section for the progress of Starbugs, Feel free to check it out here

Research and Learning
A quick mock up, to work out whether the styles both work together, i think i will need to work on the grass more to add more details, pluss the sky looks far too big and dark and also there is far too much contrast.
Grass
I'm trying to work on ideas for grass, simple painting but only to test it out. My inspiration was 'Howls Moving Castle' as some of the scenery in that film is simply amazing and inspiring, the same goes for Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away
Sky
Im still trying to learn how to paint clouds, as i think clouds are one of the most essential parts to Landscape Design, clouds can sometimes have such a great impact (using reference and research for this image)
Research: Howls Moving Castle
(Sorry for the bad quality)
The main things I love about HMC is first its scale, the whole scale of the castle and also the epic and huge landscapes.
The second thing i love is the colours which are vibrant fresh and also true to real life, the colours in the sunset image i find truly amazing and would like to explore possible ways of getting this moody effect and look.
The third and final thing i love about this film is its detail, the amount of detail is astonishing and must have taken a long time to create each seperate landscape. Some areas i think are alterated versions of photos, though im not quite sure...

In terms of animation it is really smooth I also like its unique art design.
